Joint 5th Urban Economy Forum + 59th ISOCARP World Planning Congress

The Urban Economy Forum (UEF) and the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP) organise the joint 5th Urban Economy Forum + 59th ISOCARP World Planning Congress (UEF5+WPC59) in Toronto, Canada, on 10-13 October 2023, centered in addressing the critical theme "For Climate Action, Urban Finance - Climate-responsive Planning for Equitable Places & Communities."

This international conference will focus on the critical role of urban finance and integrated climate-responsive planning for climate action and promoting sustainable development, especially in the context of climate crisis and financial constraints. It will also review best practices and innovative solutions to mitigate and adapt to climate change while promoting social resilience and inclusivity.

Our shared ambition with our Host Organisation, UEF, is to bring together city leaders and decision-makers, academia, planning professionals, NGOs, private sector, and financial institutions for a much-needed knowledge co-production on how to finance shared visions for and discuss policies, plans, strategies for more equitable and climate-responsive places and communities.

UEF5+WPC59 will also incorporate a Virtual Pre-congress on 20-21st of September 2023, to accommodate participants and presenters who cannot travel to Toronto but are passionate about the theme.

From 8 to 13 February, the Tenth Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF) will take place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The WUF was established in 2001 by the United Nations to address one of the most pressing issues facing the world today: rapid urbanisation and its impact on communities, cities, economies, climate change and policies. Convened by UN-Habitat, the Forum is a high level, open and inclusive platform for addressing the challenges of sustainable urbanisation.

ISOCARP and ISOCARP Institute will be actively participating by co-hosting two Networking Events, presenting our Society and projects together with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) at the exhibition (Hall 7, Booth 5), and speak on behalf of the Society at various events. Further, we invite our members, partners and supporters to join us for our social event.
